The Communication Specialist receives and responds to emergency and non-emergency telephone and radio calls for medical assistance.
Responds to calls in a time-sensitive manner.
Ensures appropriate and accurate routing of calls.
Dispatches emergency units and coordinates air medical flights as appropriate and per established algorithms.
Maintains documentation of calls and physician/service referrals for legal, medical and statistical purposes.
Follows up with referring entities for ease of access, marketing, evaluation, and quality improvement.
Obtains appropriate landing zone information and provides instructions to set up a suitable landing site.
Provides base radio and mission following service for transport operations, maintaining tracking of all vehicles and ensuring safe and timely arrival of the transport crews at destination.
Facilitates communications between med crews and physicians, nursing staff, police, fire, and EMS services.
Constantly monitors conditions that could present safety concerns to transport crews (i.e. weather, road construction).
Accurately records transport requests and pertinent information related to transportation of a patient.
Generates information reports from medical transportation databases.
Certified Flight Communicator credentialed from International Association of Medical Transport Communications Specialists (IAMTCS) required within 12 Months (1 year) of hire or job transfer date, or by 12/31/17.
HS or Equivalent
High School Diploma and knowledge of medical terminology required Completion of a medical certificate program (ie Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant or Health Unit Coordinator) or Associate's Degree in in a related field preferred
- Minimum three (3) years of experience directly applicable to the primary work required.
