Based in Saginaw, St. Mary’s of Michigan is a regional health system offering high quality care in cardiovascular, neurosciences, orthopedics, emergency and trauma, cancer, bariatrics, imaging diagnostics, and primary care. A part of Ascension since 1999, we offer 268 beds and over 20 specialty centers to provide access and care for people from over 70 counties.
The Infection Control Specialist will develop and implement policies governing control of infections and communicable diseases.
Hospital infection control officers are often referred to as “hospital epidemiologists (HEs),” “infection control professionals (ICPs)” or “infection preventionists.” CDC has defined “infection control professional” as " aperson whose primary training is in either nursing, medical technology, microbiology, or epidemiology and who has acquired specialized training in infection control."
Monitors and investigates known or suspected sources of infections in order to determine the source and ensure control.
Reviews, analyzes, and implements regulations, standards, and/or guidelines of applicable governmental agencies and professional organizations.
Collaborates in the development and delivery of educational programs and/or tools that relate to infection prevention, control, and epidemiology.
Reports infection surveillance, prevention and control to local, state and federal public health authorities in accordance with law and regulation.
All other duties as assigned.
BSN or other health care related degree preferred
Five (5) years of acute health care clinical nursing or equivalent level of clinical education and experience required.
Certified BLS Provider.
Certified Certification specializing in Infection Control.
Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Michigan Board of Nursing.
