On Call as needed
Collects and processes blood specimens for testing.
Draws and collects blood samples. Verifies records.
Labels, processes and delivers specimens for testing.
Maintains supplies and equipment.
May assist with coordinating and conducting blood drives, including interviewing and screening donors.
Labels, documents collection and sends or delivers specimens to the laboratory.
Communicates proper collection, collection delays, inability to collect specimens and clinically significant information.
Performs retrieval of patient information for collection and inquiry, verifies collection of specimens sent to laboratory, checks patient demographics and order information and monitors STAT order printer and/or STAT collection.
Collects venipuncture and capillary specimens according to standardized procedures.
Demonstrates a basic knowledge of laboratory tests in order to convey accurate information about results and test inquiries to customers.
Receives specimens and ascertains if specimen meets label and container requirements.
Assesses specimen suitability for tests that are ordered per feedback from technologists and Team Leaders.
Assesses the tests that are ordered on each specimen and makes appropriate decision on processing needs according to priority.
Performs centrifugation of specimens under proper conditions for different types of specimens without exception. Aliquots specimens properly for delivery to different sections of the laboratory or dispatching to reference laboratories.
Documents, completes requisitions accurately and dispatches specimens to reference labs.
Maintains stock of processing supplies, according to established guidelines.
Determines acceptability of insurance plans prior to order entry and refers as appropriate.
Contacts physician offices for new orders in OP areas and ICD-9 information as required.
Explains and obtains an Advanced Beneficiary Note (ABN) for Medicare patients when ICD-9 codes do not meet medical necessity according to Medicare guidelines.
Registers patients in Cerner.

HS or Equivalent
High school diploma or equivalent
- Successful completion of a certified Phlebotomy program and two to three years of phlebotomy experience preferred.
