Job Description

Job Summary:

The State and Local Tax Analyst focuses primarily on state and local tax return preparation and coordination as part of the Ascension Tax Center of Expertise (COE), the internal tax consulting and compliance function for the system. This position will also focus on sales and use tax compliance and consulting for the Health Ministries of Ascension. This position report to the State and Local Tax Manager- Ascension.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves in a preparation and coordination role in the delivery of state and local tax compliance and advisory services across the system, as well as sales and use tax compliance and advisory services.

  • Serves primarily in preparation and coordination roles with respect to the completion of state and local tax returns and sales and use tax returns (some of which will be prepared internally, and in other cases the Ascension role may be to gather information needed for an outside firm to prepare the return). May also assist with preparation of other miscellaneous business returns.

  • Participates in researching issues as needed related to state and local tax issues and sales and use tax issues.

  • Works to maintain effective communication between System Office, Direct Subsidiaries and Health Ministries to ensure effective coordination and flow of information between the COE and Health Ministries and outside CPA firms, related to preparation of state and local tax returns as well as sales and use tax returns.

  • Works with others in the COE to ensure the timely filing and work paper documentation of all Ascension state and local tax returns as well as sales and use tax returns.

  • Assist in ongoing effort to document internal processes used to gather the data and prepare the returns within the Tax COE. Also consider ways to automate and plan work as needed within the shared services environment.

  • Pursues a continuing program of personal development in order to maintain, strengthen and broaden his/her abilities, with a focus on development that benefits the Associate individually and the COE, as a team.

  • Supports an environment within the Tax COE and Ascension Finance that fosters teamwork, effective communication, responsiveness and customer service.

  • Performs special assignments or projects, as directed and serves on committees as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's Level Degree Required

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of four years applicable working experience with at least two years focused on tax reporting and research.

  • Requires strong tax compliance and research skills and accounting expertise in the area of tax.
