Job Description

Job Summary:

The Lead-Laboratory Assistant leads the daily activities of the assigned laboratory section/staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Supports policies, procedures and protocols for testing performed in a defined laboratory section.

  • Oversees the daily production and activity in the laboratory and facilitates workflow.

  • Supports quality control testing, instrument maintenance and troubleshooting in a defined laboratory section.

  • Defines analytic accuracy, precision, sensitivity and reference ranges for test methods in a defined laboratory section.

  • Performs data collection and analyzes data to determine validity of data. Performs special projects as assigned.

  • Contacts medical personnel regarding specimen acceptability, results, clarification of requests, and other laboratory problems.

  • Assists the Manager and/or Operations Coordinator(s) in planning the work schedules and assigns work based on availability of personnel and workload and makes adjustments to ensure continuous effective laboratory operations.

  • Trains and orients new personnel, including competency assessment. Assists with implementation and training for new equipment, software applications and processes.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate Degree

  • Associate's degree or equivalent college coursework preferred Phlebotomy certification or diploma/certificate from a recognized phlebotomy or medical assistant training program preferred

  • HS or Equivalent

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Work Experience:

  • Two years of experience required.
