Job Description

Job Summary:

The Reg Respiratory Therapist provides evaluation of and care for patients with respiratory insufficiencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Assesses patient for appropriate type and frequency of treatment and develops a plan of care based on diagnosis.

  • Implements and monitors patient care plan. Monitors, records and communicates patient condition. Performs advanced respiratory care modalities.

  • Evaluates respiratory practice, administration of medications, and treatment based on patient outcomes.

  • Educates the patient and family about the health condition and provides information about community support groups and other available programs.

  • Is an essential member of the high reliability team; reports errors/problems that occur in patient care & testing; will work on teams as needed to develop new processes that reduce/eliminate errors

Qualifications

Licenses/Certifications/Registration:

  • Required Credential(s):

  • Advanced Life Support obtained within 12 Months (1 year) of hire date or job transfer date.

  • Certified BLS Provider obtained within 3 Months (90 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

  • Certification specializing in Neonatal Resuscitation obtained within 12 Months (1 year) of hire date or job transfer date.

  • Licensed Respiratory Therapist credentialed from the New York Department of Education obtained within 60 Months (5 years) of hire date or job transfer date. Previous experience as a Licensed Respiratory Therapist preferred. NYS Respiratory Therapy Tech can be accepted in lieu of Respiratory Therapist

  • Preferred Credential(s):

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification preferred.

Education & Work History:

  • AAS OR BS RESPIRATORY THERAPY DEGREE; NYS LICENSE; BLS, ACLS, NRP, AND PALS CERTIFICATIONS (IF NOT CURRENT WILL HAVE UP TO 6 MONTHS TO COMPLETE
